Faced with a major challenge regarding Food Distribution costs, our community of love prevails.
The people gather early in the morning. Among the collected are seniors, the working poor, children and veterans. They stand in long lines to receive fresh produce from the Friendship Outreach Center, Inc.’s Mobile Pantry.
Each month, in partnership with the Maryland Food Bank, our Mobile Food Pantry distributes over 15,000 pounds of food to families in need.
This past fall, change came not only to the weather, but also in the form of an unexpected rise in the cost of transporting food to the produce drop.
Suddenly faced with a new and daunting monthly fee, the Center’s budget for the upcoming year was significantly challenged.
An urgent appeal to our Friendship family was made via a YouCaring Crowdfunding Campaign, online social networks, and the time-tested method – word of mouth.
In less than two weeks, thanks to an outstanding response and the generosity of our community, our goal – to cover the cost of transportation for the next 12 months – was met and exceeded!
Thank you to our supporters. You have ensured that those among us in need will continue to receive access to the blessings of fresh food in 2016!
Friendship Outreach Center, Inc. has been selected by the Maryland Food Bank as one of just three city charitable organizations to receive a truck for the purposes of Food Distribution and Outreach Services. Funding for the 17′ truck and licensing was generously provided by BJ’s Wholesalers and Maryland Food Bank.
